In 7th grade, students experience activities designed to improve existing skills and develop new skills, all of which promote health-enhancing behaviors. A lot of emphasis is placed on gaining a deeper understanding of what it means to be fit, why being fit matters and how to get fit.

Assessment
Students are assessed on a regular basis in Physical Education. Assessments are used to guide teaching and evaluate mastery of a topic. Assessments can take many forms - some formal and some informal. Students are informally assessed during every class, whether it be on skill mastery, application of knowledge, conduct or effort. Formal assessments can take the form of reflections, homework, written or skill tests and presentations, as well as numerous other methods. |
Fitness Testing
At the beginning of each trimester, students are given a fitness assessment called the Fitnessgram test. Students are evaluated as to their individual level of health-related fitness in the areas of cardiovascular (or aerobic) fitness, muscular fitness and flexibility. Tests include the PACER, push up, curl up and sit & reach test. Results of each test are used to determine if each student is considered to have a healthy level of fitness in each area - the "healthy fitness zone." Results of this assessment can be used to make modifications to the student's current activity moving forward. |
